Well, history just happened. The Dutch routed the Italians for the first time since 1978, giving them a thumping and a half 3-0 to open up the European tournament. Awesome, awesome stuff to watch. The game in general just rocked, but I think the commentators had it right: the Italians might be showing their age a bit. But either way, it's awesome to see the Dutch kicking ass and taking names again. Hope they keep it up!
On with the countdown:
6. 'The Catch', Capital One Bowl, Iowa vs. LSU. Awesome game that went back and forth the whole way until on the very last play of the game at the very last second, Drew Tate floats up a gorgeous pass that was caught by Warren Holloway and ran in for the game winner. I honestly think the whole state was on its feet. Just unbelievable.
7. Breaking the Curse, 2004: I've never really gotten baseball. It just seemed totally alien to me until the Red Sox of 2004 came along and I got caught up in it all. They came back to beat the Yankees and went on to break the curse and win the World Series.
8. Beckham hits the Metrodome: My woman loves me. Like, she reaaaaaalllllly loves me a lot. She got me tickets to the Copa Minnesota, where the Minnesota Thunder (the local semi-pro soccer team) took on the L.A. Galaxy and David Beckham. And not only did she get seats, but she got fantastic seats about row five right at the corner. It was AWESOME. That's the only word for it!
9. The Final Four: A lot of people like to piss on women's basketball a lot, but the 1993 Iowa Women's Team made a run all the way to the Final Four, guided by women's basketball legend C. Vivian Stringer and I remember it! Not only did we get some NCAA action in Carver-Hawkeye but everyone flipped out about it- even though Iowa went down and didn't win it all. But still, it rocked.
10. 2002 Iowa Football: 8-0 in the Big Ten, 11-2-0 overall, losing only to Iowa State and USC in the Orange Bowl. Most incredible season I can remember. We lost to Iowa State (which pissed me off) and then just kept winning every singe step of the way.
