Here's the latest from the Iowa Flooding:
In Iowa City: water continues to rise everywhere- but in Coralville, sandbag levees at the Iowa River Landing (near the new Marriot out near I-80) have breached and business are trying to evacuate- water is about 100 yards from the Marriot and closing fast.
According to the US Corps of Engineers, the Iowa River rose about 2 feet in a twenty four hour period, which just seems insane to me- but when you take into account the 1.35 inches of rain they had, it probably makes sense.
Riverside Drive in Iowa City has closed between Benton Street and Highway 6- they've got a list of street closings as well- Highway 965 is closed at the river and I think the DOT has 380 and 80 closed over the river as well, but I can't be sure. In fact, to be sure, if you're in the area, check the DOT's road closings website, here.
They've got rolling power outages too- though it seems like power is back on in University Heights.
The latest cancellations from the University of Iowa, here. And some updates from the Museum of Art, here.
**BREAKING: The Johnson County Sheriff has ordered all non-essential traffic out of the Iowa City/Coralville area- he also noted that there are no bridges closed as of 11.15 AM this morning, but 'that could change.'
