Recovery efforts are gathering pace in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Des Moines. President Bush is travelling to Eastern Iowa to view flooded areas today- and officials are warning that its too soon to talk about buyouts in Cedar Rapids even as they estimate that there were about 6,000 or so jobs lost in the floods.
In Iowa City, the Highway 6 bridge south of town has re-opened and the UI Campus is starting to move ahead with recovery. Latest pictures, here.
Meanwhile, the flooding continues to move south along the Mississippi as levee breaks were reported in Missouri and workers were frantically sandbagging in Illinois as record crests were expected in Hannibal, MO. Parts of Oakville and Burlington, IA also remain under water and there are new warnings that food prices are going to continue to rise because of the flooding and the immense loss of crops.
