All Jokes Aside

Al Franken secured the DFL endorsement for the U.S. Senate over the weekend at the State Convention in Rochester. He swept through on the first ballot- and his opponent, Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer withdrew after it became clear that Franken had secured enough delegates to get the endorsement. Franken also apologized for past materials in his life as a comedian that had surfaced in the campaign in recent weeks in an attempt to get the press coverage behind him.

To be honest: I'm not sure what I think about this. I think Coleman is very vulnerable in the fall, but I'm not sure Franken is the one to beat him. That said, I think the GOP might have made a tactical error by dropping this stuff on him now, they've handed him an opportunity to get clear of it and put it behind him. Tactically they could have done more damage if they would have sat on it until the fall and dropped it on him then. But the deed is done. We'll see if Franken can get the job done.
