let it go. Seriously now. People need to get over the 2000 election. We know. Bush was elected. We know- Kerry bungled it in 2004 and Bush was re-elected. For the love of mike, let it go already. You notice how no one ever asks questions of Al Gore? Political Science 101 (of which I already have one college degree in and am pretty close to another) states the obvious: incumbency gives you a huge advantage and economic prosperity gives you an even bigger one. And in 2000, Al Gore was the incumbent coming off 8 years of unprecedented economic growth and prosperity. He couldn't even win his home state and he couldn't win Florida.
2000 should not have been remotely close. An incumbent Vice-President coming off of 8 years of huge economic growth going up against a two-bit Governor whose record was, at best, mixed? How does that lead to an almost deadlocked election? How? People blame Ralph Nader, people blame some grand, Republican conspiracy, but the fact remains: what did Al Gore do wrong? Because the train came off the tracks somewhere and I'm tired of people adding to the hyper-partisanship by promoting flakey conspiracy theories. It's like all the old fogies that still can't forgive JFK for winning in 1960. It's over, man. Let it go.
